About the role

  • Design & Engineering Apprentice with BMT focusing on tackling engineering challenges and developing innovative solutions for marine vessels. Involves collaboration, design, and project involvement in marine engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply a breadth of engineering skills
  • Use software and technologies to help solve complex engineering problems
  • Contribute to developing designs for the next generation of vessels and platforms, and to maintaining and improving the design of existing ships and submarines
  • Keep up-to-date with future technologies and how they could be incorporated into our designs
  • Be part of a team interacting directly with our customers at meetings and during surveys of ships and submarines
  • Help develop in-service modifications for in-service naval and commercial marine vessels
  • Be part of the development of the ‘clean maritime’ engineering and integration solution

Requirements

  • A minimum GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (C) and above in Mathematics, English and Science-based subjects for Level 3 Engineering Design Technician Advanced Apprenticeship
  • A minimum GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (C) or above in Mathematics and English for Level 6 Degree Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Grade C or above in A-Level Mathematics plus a pass in one of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Computing/Computer Science, Design and Technology, Electronics, Engineering, ICT, Further Mathematics, Music Technology, Physics, Statistics
  • You must have a minimum of two A-levels
  • Grade C in A-Level Mathematics, in addition to your T Level qualification for T Levels
  • A minimum of 112 Tarif Points required
  • One of the following BTEC Diplomas: Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Science, Construction and the Built Environment, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Engineering, Land-based Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations and Maintenance Engineering with Merit in specific units
  • Achievement of the HE Diploma for Access, including 30 Level 3 credits at Merit including 15 in Mathematics and 15 in another science or technology subject
