About the role

  • State and Local Tax Intern gaining knowledge of Tax and Advisory practices through client work. Participating in compliance reviews, analyzing tax controversies, and drafting technical memoranda.

Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge of the firm's Tax and Advisory practices through working with multiple clients across a variety of industries.
  • Participate in performing state and local tax compliance reviews,
  • Analyze tax controversies,
  • Research and draft technical memoranda regarding income and franchise tax issues.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis upon hire.
  • Must have completed or be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program, with a preference for accounting majors
  • If an accounting major, must meet educational requirements to obtain CPA license upon full-time Staff hire
  • Must reside within a commutable distance to a Baker Tilly office and be willing to work on-site
  • Eligible candidates must have academic courses remaining at the end of the internship; ideally, in the third year of a 4-year program, or fourth year of a 5-year program
  • Major in Accounting or coursework in technology-related fields highly desirable
  • Master of Tax or JD/LLM preferred
  • Willingness to travel to client locations, including overnight stays, with travel expectations varying by department and office location
  • Flexibility to work overtime or additional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Excellent customer service skills;

  • Organize information and exercise well-reasoned judgment
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
