About the role
- Project Geotechnical Engineer managing diverse geotechnical engineering projects in public and private sectors. The role involves design, investigation, analysis, and project management in Louisville, KY.
Responsibilities
- Effectively manage projects, resources, and staff while providing expert technical guidance in geotechnical engineering across diverse projects in both public and private sectors and ensure strict adherence to applicable guidelines
- Perform geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins
- Direct and supervise subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, and geotechnical data interpretation to ensure a high-quality, timely, and within-budget delivery of the projects
- Perform geotechnical design and analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses in support of a wide range of projects in public and private sectors
- Supervise and lead geotechnical support during construction of geotechnical elements, including shallow and deep foundations, grading, utility trenching, and other earthwork operations
- Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and governmental personnel, ensuring that all geotechnical concerns are addressed comprehensively
- Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers and foster their professional development
- Play an active role in professional associations.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering suffices; a master's degree in geotechnical engineering is preferred
- 5+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering practice with an emphasis on geotechnical design and analysis, geotechnical field investigation, and construction supervision
- The successful candidate will have a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Kentucky or Indiana
- Local experience and familiarity with the local engineering practice
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
- Geotechnical background including fundamental knowledge of principles of geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrology
- Experience in construction oversight for foundation and pavement construction and earthwork observation
- Experience with geotechnical engineering software; SlopeW, GeoStudio
- Familiarity with AASHTO standards, guidelines, and deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to lead small to medium-scale geotechnical projects and manage field geologists and engineers
- Must have a valid drivers license and a good driving record
- Must be able to pass a background check for clearance to work on various private and government facilities.
