About the role

  • Tax Manager overseeing compliance with Canadian and U.S. tax regulations at Valsoft Corporation. Responsible for managing tax provisions and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and review of quarterly (where required) and annual tax provisions for the portfolio.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for current and deferred tax calculations, including reconciliations of effective tax rates.
  • Assess the impact of tax law changes, including U.S. and international tax reforms, on the financial statements.
  • Support provision calculations related to international tax structures, including GILTI, BEAT, FDII, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, and Pillar Two considerations as they arise.
  • Collaborate with the corporate tax team and portfolio finance teams to ensure timely implementation and accuracy of tax provisions and disclosures.
  • Assist with automation and implementation of a tax provision software solution to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain organized documentation of working papers related to provisions, assumptions, and key judgments to support audits and compliance reviews.
  • Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns by external providers, ensuring filings are timely and accurate.
  • Work with the head of finance, the M&A team, and external advisors on various tax elections and corporate research projects.
  • Oversee tax compliance processes, including tax filings, estimated tax payments, and extensions.
  • Maintain tax and audit records and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors and auditors to ensure accurate tax filings and documentation.

Requirements

  • Professional designation: CPA or CA
  • More than 4 years of tax experience post-designation in public accounting or corporate tax environments, with exposure to Canadian and U.S. tax matters; international tax experience is an asset.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian and U.S. corporate taxation, tax accounting, transfer pricing, and international tax rules.
  • Experience managing tax compliance processes and tax provision preparation.
  • Familiarity with tax due diligence in M&A, tax structuring, and cross-border tax planning.
  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with non-tax stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a decentralized environment.
