About the role

  • AVP, Risk Control responsible for expert risk engineering and loss control services for marine and cargo accounts. Supporting underwriting decisions with risk assessment and technical consultation in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering expert risk engineering and loss control services for a diverse portfolio of Builder’s Risk, Cargo, and other Inland accounts
  • Supporting underwriting decisions and client risk management through risk assessment, technical consultation and development of risk improvement strategies through the life cycle of the account
  • Planning, coordinating, and monitoring risk engineering service commitments for assigned accounts
  • Conducting periodic desktop risk assessments for Builder’s Risk and Cargo accounts
  • Leveraging third-party Property/Marine survey vendors for physical survey work
  • Assessing catastrophic exposures and the adequacy of contractor mitigation plans
  • Providing technical consultation to underwriters through risk assessment narratives and risk scoring
  • Collaborating with underwriting to create stewardship presentations that focus on tracking key metrics
  • Delivering underwriter and client education on marine risk topics
  • Attending industry conferences with underwriters for educational sessions and relationship building events with brokers and clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in risk control, loss control, or risk engineering within construction, property, marine, or cargo insurance
  • Risk control experience in both account management and performing onsite surveys and risk assessments
  • Expert understanding of relevant industry standards, such as NFPA, FM, IMO, TAPA, etc.
  • Experience assessing risk across multiple transportation modes (rail, truck, vessel, aircraft, barge) and cargo commodity classes
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn proprietary systems
  • Professional designations such as ARM, CSP, CPP, CFPS, PE, or other related designations are valued but not required.
