About the role

  • Associate Principal Architect at Arcadis specializing in government and civic projects in Ottawa. Leading project delivery from conceptual design to construction completion while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of architectural projects — from early design through construction close-out — with a focus on design excellence, technical precision, and client satisfaction
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget while ensuring compliance with federal design standards, including GC Workplace requirements
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, particularly with PSPC and other government agencies
  • Respond to RFPs and lead proposal development, including schedules, budgets, and project plans
  • Inspire and manage collaborative design teams, coordinating staffing and resources with studio and practice group leadership
  • Lead business development initiatives by identifying new opportunities
  • Co-develop a team of 10 people
  • Provide clear, concise communication through project updates, meeting minutes, and memos to internal teams, consultants, stakeholders, and clients
  • Oversee construction administration, offering expert input on technical and design decisions throughout the build phase
  • Review project documentation for accuracy, clarity, and contract compliance
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Travel as needed for client meetings, site visits, and strategic sessions across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario

Requirements

  • Licensed Architect (OAA) or eligible for licensure in Ontario within 6 months
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture
  • 12+ years of experience in architecture, with a strong portfolio in government and civic projects
  • Proven success in business development, client engagement, and brand elevation
  • Deep understanding of federal procurement processes and working with governmental departments and agencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Expertise in site analysis, concept development, schematic and detailed design, contract documentation, and construction administration
  • Experience developing RFP responses, including scheduling, budgeting, and project planning
  • Professional accreditation in one or more of the following is a strong asset
  • Passive House (CPHC or CPHD)
  • LEED AP
  • BREEAM AP
  • WELL AP
