About the role

  • Underwriting Assistant handling commercial lines and supporting underwriters at Intact. Collaborating with brokers and managing policy endorsements and cancellations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage policy endorsements and cancellations.
  • Respond courteously to basic inquiries from brokers.
  • Assist underwriters in administering complex policies.
  • Apply underwriting strategies in accordance with company guidelines and individual underwriting authority limits.
  • Support brokers on underwriting and rating policies.
  • Work closely to develop and maintain positive business partnerships with brokers and colleagues.
  • Use the computer system for policy inquiries, electronic filing, underwriting and rating operations.
  • Make recommendations to improve the department and increase its efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Experience in underwriting (an asset).
  • DEC or AEC in Property and Casualty Insurance (an asset).
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, ideally gained within a large professional services or business services company.
  • Ability to use available resources and take ownership of professional development.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism on a daily basis.
  • Highly organized and self-directed to manage workflow effectively without continuous supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literate with the ability to work across multiple systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products and IT tools.
  • Initiative, ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to be a team player, drive change and be a positive leader.
  • No Canadian work experience required, but must have authorization to work in Canada.
