About the role
- Lead engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed design for transmission network projects (132kV+)
- Lead technical design and delivery of cable and overhead line (OHL) systems ensuring compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards
- Act as primary technical interface with EPC and OEM contractors and ensure consistency across Strategic Projects
- Review engineering documentation for feasibility and compliance and advise on construction and outage programmes
- Prepare specifications and cost estimates for complex, high-value cable and OHL designs
- Resolve statutory, land, and consent issues for cable and OHL routes
- Evaluate tender submissions and provide technical recommendations and support tender assessments and bid evaluations
- Define equipment requirements for SCAs, technical specifications, and BETTA documentation
- Review and prepare drawings and specifications for construction and procurement and manage technical correspondence/documentation
- Ensure designs and practices meet legislation, policies and operational standards and lead resolution of site/construction issues to prevent fault recurrence
- Provide technical guidance to Pre-Contract and Delivery teams, mentor junior staff and contribute to training and development
- Promote industry best practices and innovation for cost, safety and efficiency improvements and collaborate across global engineering teams
Requirements
- Degree or HND/HNC in Engineering (or equivalent) with relevant experience
- Extensive experience in transmission OHL and related equipment
- Demonstrated success in delivering complex transmission cable/OHL designs
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Skilled in technical writing and influencing senior stakeholders
- Proven ability to apply CDM and H&S best practices in design
- Capable of representing engineering decisions and standards at senior levels
- Ability to review and prepare engineering documentation, drawings, specifications and cost estimates
- Willingness/ability to work in Blantyre, United Kingdom; applicants not citizens must meet immigration requirements (company support available)
