About the role
- Design, build and enhance features for the company game platform focusing on services used by game teams
- Lead extraction of loosely coupled Node.js/TypeScript microservices from a PHP monolith
- Run services on a distributed architecture in Google Cloud and ensure stability, performance, scalability, security and maintainability
- Take ownership of maintaining and extending central shared services used by game teams and stakeholders
- Define SLOs, add metrics/tracing/logging, participate in on-call and incident reviews, and harden reliability and performance in live operations
- Leverage AI tools to enhance development efficiency, code quality, and problem solving
- Collaborate closely with game designers, producers and product leads to implement new features
- Communicate and collaborate within cross-functional teams and influence technical architecture decisions
- Mentor engineers via design reviews, pairing, and by setting coding standards; contribute to engineering hiring
Requirements
- 7+ years of proven experience in Node.js/TypeScript development
- Proficiency in Next.js, Nest.js, Express.js, and Jest
- Deep experience with distributed systems: queues/pub-sub, idempotency, data modeling across service boundaries, and eventual consistency
- Experience developing and maintaining multi-server, high-load backend services and APIs
- Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or similar)
- Strong automated quality mindset using unit testing, integration testing, and other test automation frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate AI tools into development workflows
- Be familiar with or eager to learn other languages like PHP or Java
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Hands-on experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
- Enthusiasm for games, ideally strategy games
