About the role

  • Report to the Laboratory Technical Manager and be part of the Scientific Services Management team
  • Ensure continual compliance to ISO 17025 and maintain UKAS accreditation and DWTS requirements
  • Ensure routine and non-routine samples are analysed in accordance with documented procedures and within appropriate timescales
  • Proactively contribute to improvements and apply Lean principles to increase productivity and efficiency
  • Ensure audits, procedures and method reviews are carried out according to annual schedules
  • Actively participate in staff recruitment and conduct staff performance reviews and assessments
  • Participate in internal and external training for continued development
  • Investigate non-conforming work and AQC failures and ensure timely sign-off
  • Ensure team compliance with health and safety procedures and monitor performance against targets

Requirements

  • Recognised degree in a relevant science-based subject, preferably chemistry or microbiology
  • Either hold or be working towards chartered status of a Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) recognised professional body
  • Extensive experience of Drinking Water Quality standards, ISO 17025 requirements, DWTS and testing methods
  • Specialisation in chemistry or microbiology, with a working knowledge of both disciplines
  • Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory and maintaining UKAS accreditation (implied)
  • Experience of audits, procedures and method reviews
  • Experience in staff recruitment, performance reviews and assessments
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures relevant to laboratory operations
