About the role

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of Donlin Gold’s power generation and distribution infrastructure, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with all regulatory and engineering standards.
  • Manage EPCM contractors and ensure seamless coordination across engineering, procurement, and construction disciplines.
  • Oversee natural gas and diesel fuel delivery systems, heat recovery units, power distribution networks, and integration with mine operations.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers to ensure project delivery aligns with Donlin Gold’s objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Donlin Gold’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and all applicable permitting requirements.
  • Monitor transient-load system behavior to ensure grid stability, efficiency, and reliability under dynamic operating conditions.
  • Coordinate design and construction efforts with the Pipeline Project Manager to ensure alignment of the gas pipeline and power infrastructure systems.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor selection, procurement, and performance monitoring.
  • Provide technical leadership in power system engineering, energy efficiency, and reliability optimization.
  • Produce accurate and timely reports on project status, risks, cost performance, and milestones for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and Alaska Native corporation partners (Calista Corporation and The Kuskokwim Corporation).
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and project staff, promoting Donlin Gold’s culture of collaboration, safety, and accountability.
  • Support commissioning and operational readiness planning for all power generation and distribution systems.
  • Travel to Anchorage, the Yukon–Kuskokwim region, and the Donlin Gold project site as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Energy Engineering; Master’s preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E. or P.Eng.) license required.
  • Minimum 12 years of project management experience in power generation, transmission, or energy infrastructure.
  • Experience with natural gas and diesel fuel systems, power distribution, and transient-load system analysis.
  • Proven experience managing EPCM contractors and large, multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency with project management software and power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, PowerWorld, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards including IEEE, NFPA, and API.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in cold-climate or remote logistics environments strongly preferred.
  • PMP certification preferred.
