About the role

  • Part Time Occupational/Physical Therapist role supporting individuals and families affected by ALS through community follow-ups and assessments. Collaborating with healthcare staff and providing training around equipment utilization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide community follow-up for new equipment utilization and safety training.
  • Assess individual’s physical and cognitive capabilities in their home to determine care needs and level of function.
  • Assess the capability of family members and aides to provide care needs.
  • Evaluate the need for Durable Medical Equipment.
  • Develop and implement Treatment Plan for individuals, family members, and caregivers, including ADL capabilities, care goals, transfers, and home safety.
  • Work with patients to relieve pain and discomfort and maintain function.
  • Collaborate with and communicate relevant information with Clinic, Care Services staff, and community therapist where applicable.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and skills through continuing education.

Requirements

  • Have and maintain dual state licensure (NY/NJ)
  • 3 Years OT/PT experience with ALS or geriatrics
  • Driver's license and car
  • Familiarity with power wheelchairs and patient lifts and training in their use.
  • Implementation of Assistive Devices - from letter boards to placement of switches
  • Excellent listening, speaking, and writing skills
  • Ability to recognize and effectively address unique situations
