About the role

• Head of Engineering responsible for building a local engineering hub in Cairo for a fintech company. Overseeing a distributed team of developers to deliver secure and scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a world-class engineering team based in Egypt
• Oversee a hybrid team of in-house, contract, and outsourced developers globally
• Deliver on dopay’s product roadmap across payroll, cards, Earned Wage Access, and future fintech products
• Ensure code quality, security, and regulatory compliance
• Implement scalable engineering practices, agile workflows, and QA processes
• Own system performance, infrastructure reliability, and uptime
• Drive architectural decisions that support scale, speed, and new feature delivery
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align technology with business priorities

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ in leadership roles
• Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams, ideally from scratch
• Strong background working with distributed or hybrid teams, including external vendors
• Hands-on experience delivering secure, high-availability platforms
• Familiarity with or openness to learning our stack (Ruby on Rails is our primary backend framework) is strongly preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Fluent in English and Arabic
• Experience in fintech, SaaS, or regulated environments is preferred

• Familiarity with the Egyptian and global fintech landscape and with compliance requirements
• Experience with payroll, payments, or card infrastructure
