Manufacturing Engineer overseeing assembly planning activities for North America operations. Driving innovation and excellence in axle drive manufacturing at ZF in Marysville, MI.
Responsibilities
Oversee assembly planning activities within Region North America to support internal and external customers, including but not limited to pre-planning conceptualization and capital investment analyses, specification development, equipment vendor selection, installation/commissioning of assembly equipment (e.g. first run-off), and production releases of equipment and manufacturing procedures.
Develop capital models for equipment cost estimation activities; analyze cost/pricing differences between new investment and equipment changeovers.
Complete vendor assessments for selection initiatives through on-site visits and performance analyses.
Serve as primary contact/liaison to customer; identify customer specifications for new and existing products and develop equipment and assembly process specifications (i.e. design changes, new features, etc.).
Ensure implementation of planning phase for equipment installations in the plant related to pre-series and launch management projects in coordination with the manufacturing planning department in Germany.
Establish planning and corrective action procedures for production and maintenance teams to ensure minimal operation downtime and commercial impact for line stoppages or cycle times.
Support change management processes regarding launch management timing and engineering change implications (i.e. quotations, validations, timing, communications to affected departments/groups, etc.).
Requirements
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related Engineering field.
5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience within a Tier-1 Supplier or OEM environment.
3+ years of experience with project supervision in one or more of the following areas: industrialization, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing planning, and/or program/launch management.
2+ years of experience with Bills of Material (BOM) structures, manufacturing equipment/tooling planning, design change procedures, and the technical and manufacturing facets of product development.
Knowledge of passenger car powertrain technology.
Basic understanding of the technical facets & economics of the axle or driveline industry.
Proficient with Axalant or comparable engineering change system.
Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 30%) – e.g. to Germany, etc.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
