About the role

  • Associate Underwriting Officer managing underwriting strategy and execution in Excess & Surplus insurance. Collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance and quality in risk assessment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in assessing, recommending, and implementing underwriting strategies and practices in support of profit and growth objectives for assigned group.
  • Support successful underwriting execution through individual risk and/or portfolio CUREs as well as through the evaluation of underwriter proficiency and underwriting quality.
  • Contribute to the development of key underwriting capabilities and best practices through coaching and trainings while educating underwriters on strategy and guidelines to enhance efficiency and effectiveness for assigned group.
  • Assist in monitoring trends, emerging issues, and underwriting results for assigned book of business.
  • Partner with underwriting leadership to take action, as needed.
  • May manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Six or more years of commercial underwriting experience with experience in Excess & Surplus underwriting.
  • Knowledge of risk appetite and risk selection, Excess & Surplus lines products, as well as the regulatory environment and local insurance marketplace.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with risk appetite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and influence others.
  • CPCU designation.
  • Five years of commercial underwriting experience.
