Associate Underwriting Officer managing underwriting strategy and execution in Excess & Surplus insurance. Collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance and quality in risk assessment activities.
Responsibilities
Aid in assessing, recommending, and implementing underwriting strategies and practices in support of profit and growth objectives for assigned group.
Support successful underwriting execution through individual risk and/or portfolio CUREs as well as through the evaluation of underwriter proficiency and underwriting quality.
Contribute to the development of key underwriting capabilities and best practices through coaching and trainings while educating underwriters on strategy and guidelines to enhance efficiency and effectiveness for assigned group.
Assist in monitoring trends, emerging issues, and underwriting results for assigned book of business.
Partner with underwriting leadership to take action, as needed.
May manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree.
Six or more years of commercial underwriting experience with experience in Excess & Surplus underwriting.
Knowledge of risk appetite and risk selection, Excess & Surplus lines products, as well as the regulatory environment and local insurance marketplace.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with risk appetite.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and influence others.
CPCU designation.
Five years of commercial underwriting experience.
