About the role
- Linux System Engineer ensuring 24/7 system reliability for tonies global manufacturing operations. Collaborating on infrastructure automation and system observability for optimal performance.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement infrastructure and networking solutions for production systems in both on-premise and AWS environments
- Develop infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible and Terraform
- Collaborate with software engineers and SREs on observability, redundancy, and backup, as well as security and compliance topics
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting across time zones with production and engineering teams
- Contribute to system design and architecture decisions for production systems, ensuring performance
- Support the reliability of globally distributed production systems by coordinating across German and Asian time zones
- Keep infrastructure documentation up to date and aligned with best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field
- Expert-level Linux system administration, with a focus on Debian /Ubuntu and embedded Linux distributions like OpenWrt and OpenSens
- Strong expertise in infrastructure automation and configuration management (e.g., Ansible)
- Experience operating and optimizing hybrid production environments (on-premise and AWS)
- Strong expertise in networking and security (TCP/IP, VPN, routing, firewalls, system hardening)
- Solid skills in diagnosing and debugging network issues using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, nmap, or iperf
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, and observability solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Jaeger)
- Proven ability to design, debug, and maintain highly available and scalable infrastructure systems
- Experience with disaster recovery strategies and backup systems
- Strong scripting skills in Shell (Bash) and Python for automation
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with international, cross-functional teams
