About the role

  • Senior Electrical Designer providing technical leadership for capital projects in Solstice Advanced Materials' manufacturing network. Based in Baton Rouge, Geismar, Colonial Heights, or Houston.

Responsibilities

  • Support electrical and instrumentation design activities through Pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed design, construction support, and startup/commissioning
  • Serve as a technical design resource for capital projects, coordinating with engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams
  • Provide on‑site support during construction and startup as required
  • Identify scope changes, support change order development, and communicate schedule impacts or improvement opportunities to the discipline lead
  • Develop complete electrical and instrumentation design packages, including: Instrument loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, junction box schedules, interconnection diagrams
  • Power distribution, grounding, and lighting systems
  • Motor control schematics, MCC integration, and loading
  • PLC/DCS cabinet layouts, termination drawings, and I/O documentation
  • Instrument specifications and installation details
  • Produce 480 VAC and 5 kV / 15 kV equipment specifications and electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval
  • Incorporate hazardous area classifications, code‑driven installation methods, and enclosure requirements into all designs
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEC, NFPA, ISA, OSHA, PIP standards, and internal Solstice engineering standards
  • Apply electrical area classification requirements (e.g., Class I, Division 2, sealing, purging, enclosure ratings)
  • Perform and review calculations for conductor sizing, conduit and cable tray fill and routing, voltage drop, determine motor control center (MCC) loading, overcurrent protection, lighting levels, and grounding
  • Create and maintain accurate 2D drawings using AutoCAD
  • Develop and maintain 3D models using AutoCAD 3D or similar tools, coordinating with piping, mechanical, civil, and automation models
  • Generate and maintain construction drawings, cable schedules, routing plans, instrument indexes, I/O lists, and SPI / InTools databases
  • Maintain drawing and document integrity through design, construction, and as‑built phases
  • Conduct site surveys and field verifications to scope and/or confirm design accuracy
  • Support construction by resolving technical questions, addressing field discrepancies, and updating as‑built documentation
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors on equipment specifications, installation details, and system integration
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, and QA/QC review for junior designers and drafters
  • Delegate work based on technical capability and workload
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews and checks to ensure coordination across engineering disciplines
  • Support training, professional development, and knowledge sharing within the design organization

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Computer‑Aided Drafting, or related field with 8–10 years of experience, or 10–12 years of relevant experience in an engineering firm or industrial manufacturing environment (chemical, petrochemical, or similar)
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, as required
  • Working knowledge of the current National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Familiarity with construction bulk materials and equipment, including specifications and installation details
  • Ability to develop accurate electrical installation documents based on vendor equipment drawings
  • Understanding of interdisciplinary workflow and information flow between engineering disciplines
  • Understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for producing electrical deliverables
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion timelines for assigned tasks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience using 2D AutoCAD and MicroStation, and 3D modeling tools such as SmartPlant 3D
  • Proficiency with SPI / InTools and electrical design database administration
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, or equivalent continuous improvement experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Self‑starter with a results‑driven mindset and strong bias for action
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills
