About the role

  • Site Data Analyst responsible for optimizing data reporting and insights in vertical shaft sinking operations within US mining projects. Collaborating with teams for data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all functions are carried out in compliance with company health, safety and environmental guidelines, policies, procedures, and legislations.
  • Collect and consolidate daily, weekly, and monthly data from shaft sinking operations, including cycle times, advance rates, downtime logs, and resource consumption metrics.
  • Analyze data to align reporting across departments, identifying discrepancies in cycle metrics (e.g., blast-to-muck cycles, hoist efficiencies) and recommending standardization protocols.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and visualizations for key performance indicators (KPIs) such as shaft depth progression, material handling volumes, and safety incident correlations.
  • Support the integration of data from various sources, including IoT sensors, timekeeping systems, and manual logs, to create unified datasets for project tracking.
  • Perform statistical analysis on operational data to forecast trends, detect bottlenecks in vertical shaft workflows, and propose optimizations for cycle efficiency.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and site managers to validate data accuracy and incorporate engineering insights into analytical models.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of data management systems, including code of accounts for cost allocation tied to shaft sinking phases.
  • Monitor and report on variances from project baselines, using tools like earned value management adapted for data-centric metrics.
  • Prepare customized reports and presentations for site and office personnel, highlighting data-driven insights on productivity, cost overruns, and risk factors.
  • Track environmental and safety data, such as ventilation metrics and hazard reports, to ensure compliance and inform proactive measures.
  • Participate in change management processes by quantifying the impact of modifications on cycle metrics and overall project data integrity.
  • Contribute to the development of data governance procedures specific to mining projects, ensuring data quality and accessibility.
  • Train site personnel on data entry best practices and basic analytical tools to improve on-site data collection.
  • Arrange and document data review meetings, compiling minutes and action items related to metrics alignment.
  • Maintain historical data repositories for benchmarking future shaft sinking projects.
  • Develop ad-hoc queries and scripts to extract insights from complex datasets, focusing on unique aspects of vertical shaft operations like ground stability correlations.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Mining Engineering, Operations Management or a related field.
  • Preferred: Certifications in data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Python, Tableau) or mining-specific data management.
  • Required: 2 Years of experience in data analysis, preferably in construction, mining, or heavy industry, with exposure to performance metrics and reporting.
  • Preferred: 4 Years in underground mining or shaft sinking projects, with hands-on experience in cycle time analysis, data integration, and KPI tracking.
  • Proven ability to handle large datasets and generate insights for operational improvements.
  • Knowledge of vertical shaft sinking processes, including cycle components and common metrics (e.g., advance per shift, downtime causes).
  • Understanding of data privacy and mining regulations related to reporting.
  • Proficiency in data analysis principles, including statistical methods and trend forecasting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely data reports.
  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to provide objective, data-backed recommendations.
  • Good understanding of business interfaces, including operations, engineering, and finance.
  • Comprehensive computer skills including:
  • SQL for database querying
  • Python or R for data scripting
  • Tableau or Power BI for visualization
  • MS Office (Excel advanced functions, PowerPoint)
  • MS SharePoint
  • Oracle Fusion or similar ERP systems.

Benefits

  • Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • High level of attention to detail, neatness and accuracy.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
