About the role

• Platform Engineer III managing virtualization & storage technologies at Paychex. Providing technical infrastructure support and ensuring system stability within an agile team environment.

Responsibilities

• Implement installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of operating systems, physical and virtual infrastructure, middleware, and networking components to fulfill business requirements.
• Provides moderately complex technical support during critical and non-critical business hours on server hardware, operating systems, and software.
• Will be proactive and reactive for problem alerting, analysis, resolution, and follow up to ensure platform stability.
• Performs moderately complex application system and storage platform upgrades (hardware/software).
• Embrace Continuous Delivery principles such as Version Control, Continuous Integration, and Testing (smoke, sanity, regression), using tools like Git, Artifactory, Puppet, and Ansible to deliver robust IT solutions.
• Leverage scripting languages (Bash, Powershell) and programming languages (Python) to enhance system functionality and advance our self-service, automation, and orchestration capabilities.
• Utilize the latest technologies from leading companies such as Arista, F5, HPE, Infinidat, Microsoft, Oracle, Red Hat, along with open-source innovations critical for delivering our IT services.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of all the Platform Engineering technologies and work in a collaboration space with other Engineers within the PE team.
• Demonstrate advance troubleshooting skills across Windows, Linux and Networking devices.
• Actively engage with your colleagues to tackle challenges and issues, taking initiative to identify options and to achieve objectives, often using data-driven insights.
• Opening and tracking cases with vendors, updating statuses, and ensuring timely resolution.
• Mentors junior team members on technology and process basics.

Requirements

• Education level: master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
• Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience
• English proficiency: Effectively communicate with the team, partners, and leaders including both verbal and written methods
• Must have exposure on technologies like Git, Artifactory, ServerSpec, Foreman, Puppet and Ansible to achieve our organizations 'as code' goals and objectives
• Must have exposure to latest technologies from Cisco, Dell/EMC, Docker, VMware, Red Hat (OpenShift) and Microsoft (Hyper-V)
