Platform Engineer responsible for critical infrastructure services and applications at Paychex. Supporting operational excellence and mentoring junior engineers in complex system management.
Responsibilities
Support of critical infrastructure services as well as applications and platform technologies that play a foundational role in the operations of Paychex’s information technology systems.
An Architect level Engineer who demonstrates high skills and mastery of most or all the Platform Engineering core technologies.
Provide technical support and act as an escalation point for complex troubleshooting for applications across environments, including high impact production issues.
Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems, physical and virtual infrastructure and middleware components to fulfill business requirements.
Provides advanced complex technical support during critical and non-critical business hours on server hardware, operating systems, and software.
Will be proactive and reactive for problem alerting, analysis, resolution, and follow up to ensure platform stability.
Utilize the latest technologies from leading companies such as HPE, Infinidat, Microsoft, Oracle, Red Hat along with open-source innovations critical for delivering our IT services.
Creating/develop automation using scripting languages (Bash, Powershell) and programming languages (Python) to enhance system functionality and advance our self-service, automation, and orchestration capabilities.
SME in troubleshooting skills across Windows and Linux.
Knows how platform engineering enterprise applications and infrastructure support Paychex business processes, understands the scope of the platform engineering service catalog and can escalate service requests both internally and with external vendors to meet SLAs.
Identify the operational issues and develop effective, long-term solutions aimed at resolving these issues as well as address complex incidents to ensure sustainability and efficiency in our operations.
Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors. Work with them independently to identify and solve complex problems related to vendor performance.
Mentor junior members on advanced implementations and technologies.
Requirements
Education level: master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience.
English proficiency: Effectively communicate with the team, partners, and leaders including both verbal and written methods.
Must have exposure on technologies like Git, Artifactory, ServerSpec, Foreman, Puppet and Ansible to achieve our organizations 'as code' goals and objectives.
Must have exposure to latest technologies from Cisco, Dell/EMC, Docker, VMware, Red Hat (OpenShift) and Microsoft (Hyper-V).
