About the role

  • Substation Engineering Intern at PG&E in Oakland, CA, working with engineering teams on utility projects. Hands-on role focused on substation design and providing engineering support.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced engineers to ensure excellent service for substation projects
  • Support other team members in Transmission and Distribution Substation designs using Substation software
  • Support team members in creating/updating drawings like single line diagrams, AC & DC schematics, control room layouts, etc.
  • Actively promote safe practices according to Corporate Safety policy
  • Accomplish department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents
  • Foster teamwork and innovation in engineering processes

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education full time towards degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work location
  • Coursework in power systems
  • EIT or FE certification
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
  • PG&E is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1 or other student visa for this position.
