About the role

  • Principal Systems Engineer responsible for architecting Azure cloud infrastructure solutions. Leading cloud governance, cost optimization, and mentoring engineering teams at Newrez.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architecture of complex, scalable, and highly available Azure-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust cloud architectures.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, ARM templates, or Azure Resource Manager for automated provisioning and configuration management.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automating infrastructure and application deployments.
  • Automate routine operational tasks using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Enforce security best practices and compliance controls in Azure environments.
  • Design and implement monitoring solutions to proactively address performance and reliability issues.
  • Optimize cloud resources for cost efficiency and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in troubleshooting and resolving complex Azure infrastructure issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for critical incident response and resolution.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud architectures, configurations, and procedures.
  • Conduct knowledge sharing sessions to enhance team expertise.
  • Stay current with cloud infrastructure trends and best practices; recommend improvements and new technologies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Proven experience as a Principal Engineer with a focus on Azure cloud solutions
  • Extensive experience with Azure services (compute, storage, networking, security)
  • Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools
  • In-depth knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Expertise in designing and implementing security controls in Azure environments
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Azure certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert) preferred
  • Experience with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud architectures (Azure, AWS, VMware)
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and Azure networking services
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for collaboration and continuous integration
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and security frameworks
  • Experience with monitoring and security tools (Azure Monitor, Sentinel, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for complex infrastructure issues
  • Project management and time management capability
  • High learning agility and ability to integrate new technologies
  • High degree of professional maturity, integrity, and ability to maintain confidential data.
