About the role
- Principal Systems Engineer responsible for architecting Azure cloud infrastructure solutions. Leading cloud governance, cost optimization, and mentoring engineering teams at Newrez.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and architecture of complex, scalable, and highly available Azure-based solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust cloud architectures.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, ARM templates, or Azure Resource Manager for automated provisioning and configuration management.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automating infrastructure and application deployments.
- Automate routine operational tasks using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Enforce security best practices and compliance controls in Azure environments.
- Design and implement monitoring solutions to proactively address performance and reliability issues.
- Optimize cloud resources for cost efficiency and performance.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert in troubleshooting and resolving complex Azure infrastructure issues.
- Participate in on-call rotations for critical incident response and resolution.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud architectures, configurations, and procedures.
- Conduct knowledge sharing sessions to enhance team expertise.
- Stay current with cloud infrastructure trends and best practices; recommend improvements and new technologies.
- Perform related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Proven experience as a Principal Engineer with a focus on Azure cloud solutions
- Extensive experience with Azure services (compute, storage, networking, security)
- Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools
- In-depth knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
- Expertise in designing and implementing security controls in Azure environments
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Azure certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert) preferred
- Experience with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud architectures (Azure, AWS, VMware)
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of networking concepts and Azure networking services
- Experience with Azure DevOps for collaboration and continuous integration
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and security frameworks
- Experience with monitoring and security tools (Azure Monitor, Sentinel, etc.)
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for complex infrastructure issues
- Project management and time management capability
