About the role

  • Managing Director leading international tax strategy at Berkowitz Pollack Brant, advising high-net-worth clients on complex cross-border issues. Collaborating with team members to expand the firm's tax practice.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior advisor to high-net-worth individuals, families, family offices, and closely held businesses on complex international tax and private wealth matters.
  • Lead the design and implementation of tax-efficient inbound and outbound structures for private clients, including cross-border business ownership, family investment structures, and succession planning.
  • Advise clients on the international tax implications of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, including GILTI, FDII, Subpart F, and related international provisions affecting private clients and pass-through entities.
  • Provide strategic guidance on foreign reporting and compliance matters, including Forms 5471, 8865, 8938, FBAR, and other foreign disclosure requirements.
  • Advise on offshore investment planning, repatriation strategies, and global cash-flow planning for private clients and family-controlled enterprises.
  • Partner with firm leadership to grow and expand the Private Client Services international tax practice, including business development, client origination, and cross-selling across tax, advisory, and assurance service lines.
  • Maintain and expand long-term client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor to multi-generational families and their professional advisors.
  • Collaborate closely with Partners, Principals, Directors, and Managers to deliver integrated, high-quality client solutions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing international tax teams, including Managers, Senior Managers, and Directors, and play an active role in talent recruitment and retention.
  • Monitor global tax developments and proactively assess their impact on private clients, providing timely insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Represent the firm through thought leadership, speaking engagements, and participation in professional and industry organizations focused on private wealth and international tax.

Requirements

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive tax consulting experience, with a strong emphasis on international tax and private client services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA certification required.
  • Advanced degree such as a Master’s in Taxation, LL.M. in Taxation, or JD strongly preferred.
  • Experience with a large public accounting firm or large law firm.
  • Deep expertise in inbound and outbound international taxation as it relates to high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses.
  • Extensive experience with international estate and gift tax planning, including foreign trusts (grantor and non-grantor), cross-border wealth transfers, and family structuring.
  • Strong understanding of multinational and pass-through entity taxation, transfer pricing considerations, and foreign tax credit utilization for private clients.
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of developing teams, managing complex engagements, and growing client relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, practice growth, and executive-level client advisory.
