About the role

  • Transportation Engineer providing engineering design support on various roadway, municipal, port, or rail projects. Join Moffatt & Nichol, leaders in waterfront infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway, municipal, rail and port projects from preliminary to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Begin to foster relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, NCDOT and state clients, as well as private clients
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design and design-build highway projects
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including but not limited to implementation and knowledge of cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans
  • Assist in coordinating design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective actions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation related engineering; required
  • 0 to 2 years of experience designing transportation/roadway engineering projects; required
  • Previous internship experience; preferred
  • EIT licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date; required
  • Software experience required: Microstation/Geopak, OpenRoads Designer Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) Bluebeam Revu and/or Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation); required
  • Availability and willingness to travel
