About the role
- Principal Backend Engineer I defining technical architecture at Mistplay, the leading loyalty app for mobile gamers. Collaborating with talented teams to implement engineering initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical subject matter expert to ensure technical capabilities align with the Product team and that technical initiatives are well aligned with the Product roadmap.
- Determine and develop pragmatic, achievable refactoring initiatives and ensure backend engineering team members follow the same approach.
- Design and develop highly scalable features and systems.
- Identify risks and dependencies in projects and implement mitigation strategies.
- Break down complex technical epics into executable engineering tasks.
- Collaborate with the DevOps team to build an efficient CI/CD pipeline that enables reliable, confident production deployments.
- Lead code reviews to ensure the codebase remains performant, scalable, and maintainable.
- Run regular knowledge-transfer and lunch & learn sessions with engineering team members to establish best practices and foster a healthy engineering culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in an engineering-driven product organization, including at least 2 years leading complex technical initiatives.
- Strong experience operating production-grade APIs in a cloud-native environment (AWS).
- Strong knowledge of DynamoDB or a similar NoSQL database.
- Framework-level experience with Express.js and/or NestJS (an asset).
- Experience with Python (an asset).
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and related container technologies (an asset).
- Specific experience running APIs on ECR/EKS (an asset).
- Experience with iOS, Android, or Progressive Web Apps is an asset.
