About the role

  • Research Assistant conducting experiments and supporting innovation at Meissner in scientific research. Collaborating with R&D teams and maintaining meticulous records of experimental data.

Responsibilities

  • Research Assistants are at the forefront of innovation and material testing at Meissner.
  • The Research Assistant works collaboratively with R&D Engineers and Scientists assisting with the routine operations of development, testing, quality, and production of new products and technology.
  • Carry out experiments and research according to protocols laid out by primary researchers and engineers.
  • Capability to learn new techniques and procedure rapidly and frequently is essential.
  • Learn how to use current and future scientific equipment that may include: microscopes, analytical instruments, spectroscopic tools, metrology tools.
  • Assist in projects by collecting and recording experimental data accurately electronically and in notebooks.
  • Support cell culture tasks and assist in processes and method establishment for laboratory-scale cell culture experiments.
  • Maintain meticulous records of experimental details, daily updates of spreadsheets and lab books with the attention to detail and accuracy to ensure reliable data is available for use by team members.
  • Carry out experiments in a timely manner, respecting established deadlines.
  • Conduct meaningful and accurate statistical analyses of data sets.
  • Write short reports and summaries that can be used by team members to advance projects.
  • Prepare graphs and spreadsheets to present results and keep track of activities (KPIs).
  • Create presentation slides to present findings on a regular basis, and when necessary.
  • Maintain equipment (both scientific and industrial) in proper working order and clean.
  • Take on tasks that are mechanical in nature after receiving proper training. For example, assembly/disassembly of equipment and fixtures for experiments, setup of experiments, product testing and material testing as required.
  • Assist in the operations of the R&D departmental pilot and production activities, including assistance in production, cleaning and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Requirements

  • A Science or Engineering degree required, or equivalent scientific and engineering related work experience.
  • Prior cell culture experience is preferred.
  • Must have a strong mechanical acumen and ability to perform basic math, understanding addition, subtraction, measurement, ratios, and percentages.
  • A deeper knowledge of statistical analysis is an advantage.
  • Familiar with MS Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel on the PC.
  • Must be able to record and enter data into spreadsheets and use an image analysis software.
  • Must have strong English Language written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be capable of following instructions accurately and producing data of high quality and accuracy to support research projects.
  • Attention to detail, cleanliness and accuracy is essential.
  • Must be capable of handling chemicals safely and follow safety protocols.
