About the role

  • Principal Engineer providing technical leadership in Defence engineering with KBR. Responsible for governance, quality assurance and workforce development in Mission Integration.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and technical direction as Technical Authority across the Mission Integration Operating Unit
  • Works closely with Operational Unit and program/project engineering leads and their staff.
  • Assume responsibility for defining and governing requirements and adequateness of competences and professionalisation of the engineering and technical workforce within Mission Integration OU to meet the needs of the business.
  • Develops and maintains Mission Integration Operating Unit and ADSS engineering processes and procedures that interface with the broader KBR Quality system.
  • Manage process for delegations and approves delegations to Engineering Leaders as well as approval of the technical assurance process that covers subdelegation to the engineering and technical workforce.
  • Manage the delivery of the Technical Assurance functions, including quality assurance, audit, analysis, corrective action, reporting and lessons learnt.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to programs and projects on an as required basis including technical advice and direction, and sourcing internal or external expertise as required.
  • Provide direction and guidance with developing and maintaining a framework for technical learning and development.
  • Work closely with Operational Units and People and Culture in developing the careers of technical personnel including training and professionalisation needs, and potential roles.
  • Attend project status reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (equivalent to a 4-year Washington Accord accredited program), along with relevant professional certifications to enable professional registration.
  • Registration or immediate eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with an Australian professional institution e.g. Engineers Australia or Professionals Australia (FIEAust, CPEng, PE).
  • Registration or immediate eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Australia to satisfy the requirements of the Australian State based Acts (as applicable) and/or any Australian Federal regulations.
  • Experience of Senior level delegation with responsibility at Design Engineering Level or Compliance Verification.
  • Experience of leading large engineering teams (>12 engineers) in an operational role.
  • Professional Engineer with 15y+ of experience in digital systems, including significant experience of Defence Engineering across multiple domains and programs.
  • A good understanding of the regulatory environment of one or more domains of Air, Sea, Land, Space and Cyber of the Australian Defence Force.
  • A good understanding of software dominant systems integration and certification of assured software.
  • Experience of working closely with Australian Customer organisations such as Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group, Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Group and Defence Science and Technology Group.
  • Experience of working with ASDEFCON suite of contract documentation with an excellent understanding of the intent and content of the Engineering series of documents.
  • Experience of demonstration compliance to regulation for engineering capability including Test and Evaluation and Certification.
  • Proven experience as an Engineering Leader of assured and critical systems within a Defence context, aerospace, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering principles, including full lifecycle management and the application of engineering and technical disciplines across complex systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of configuration management within systems engineering, including the establishment and control of baselines and the effective management of engineering change.
  • Have or be eligible for Australian Government Security Clearance (NV1 or higher).
