About the role

  • Senior Thermal Hydraulics Consultant developing thermal hydraulics models for nuclear plants. Managing projects while providing technical expertise and client support in a hybrid role.

Responsibilities

  • Developing new and existing thermal hydraulics models of nuclear plants using a variety of modelling codes
  • Performing analysis of fault sequences and other system transients to inform design decisions and support safety case submissions
  • Providing technical expertise in understanding the complex thermal-hydraulic phenomena predicted by the modelling
  • Providing model validation support and guidance
  • Managing all aspects of technical projects, including client communication, project delivery and other staff involved in the project
  • Developing new business by responding to enquiries and writing bids, and representing Frazer-Nash at client meetings, conferences and seminars

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of fluid flow, heat transfer, thermal hydraulics and multi-phase flows
  • Experience of applying and understanding nuclear thermal hydraulics systems codes (e.g. RELAP, GOTHIC, CATHARE, TRACE, VIPRE, S5K) to support the design and/or operation of nuclear power plants
  • A degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline, or a similar level of relevant experience
  • The ability to independently manage and deliver projects to meet customer requirements
  • Experience of writing proposals, client liaison and business development
  • Adept at communicating with clients and others at all levels, including through meetings and presentations, written reports, commercial bids and technical discussions
  • An ability to code using python, matlab or other software languages, to support or optimise analysis and simulation (preferred)
  • Experience of providing technical and commercial leadership for small project teams (preferred)
  • A relevant post-graduate degree (preferred)
