About the role

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of data architectures primarily on AWS, with exposure to Azure when relevant.
  • Demonstrate deep expertise in AWS data services such as Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, and Redshift.
  • Enforce and evolve data governance and security standards, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Define and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Apply strong Python and SQL skills to prototype data pipelines and establish technical standards.
  • Design and optimise data models and queries for large-scale datasets (including Iceberg, DuckDB, and PostgreSQL).
  • Architect and manage ETL processes and data integration into Redshift, PostgreSQL, and other cloud-native stores.
  • Implement and monitor orchestration workflows using Apache Airflow and AWS Step Functions.
  • Utilise Athena for interactive queries and S3-based data analytics.
  • Oversee logging and tracing through AWS CloudTrail, X-Ray, and other monitoring tools to ensure system reliability.
  • Lead optimisation and migration projects, ensuring operational excellence with minimal disruption.
  • Provide technical mentorship, guiding engineers and ensuring adherence to best practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in data architecture and cloud platforms, with a focus on AWS.
  • Proven expertise in AWS data services (Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, Redshift) and exposure to Azure ecosystems.
  • Hands-on experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Strong Python and SQL programming skills, including prototyping and coding standards definition.
  • Experience working with Iceberg tables and managing large-scale datasets efficiently.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, query optimisation, and data integration patterns.
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines and orchestration workflows (Airflow, Step Functions).
  • Familiarity with Kafka for event streaming and real-time data processing.
  • Demonstrated success leading data migration, optimisation, and production monitoring projects.
  • Proven track record of defining and enforcing data governance and security frameworks.
  • Experience in Azure Databricks for analytics and data engineering is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and influence technical teams.
  • Fluent in English. French is a Plus
  • Must be a Portuguese or European citizen or have a work permit for Portugal.
