About the role

• Mechanical Staff Engineer responsible for developing next generation satellite structures at ICEYE. Collaborating within a diverse team in the Earth Observation industry while based in Valencia, Spain.

Responsibilities

• Developing next generation satellite structures, deployable mechanisms and related hardware
• Communicating and collaborating with other engineering teams to achieve common goals
• Working directly with manufacturers to optimize designs for manufacturability
• Mentoring engineers, showing a noticeable passion for teaching others
• Overcoming significant design challenges and taking projects from start to finish successfully
• Designing complex mechanical systems, including deployable mechanisms
• Balancing quick and efficient design with a process-oriented approach
• Excellent communication with directors, team leads, project managers, and stakeholders
• Knowledgeable about the impact of design choices on manufacturing costs, time, and weight
• Understanding advantages and drawbacks of machinery and modifying processes for success

Requirements

• 2+ years experience as a technical lead and people lead
• Ability to perform hand calculations for fast concept implementation and simple design creation
• Experience creating functional mechanical structures using your understanding of thermal design principles, even if suboptimal
• CAD Fluency: Proficient in CAD tools like Inventor and SolidWorks
• Experience managing projects from proof of concept to delivery
• Experience as a mechanical architect (preferred)
• Spacecraft system level knowledge (preferred)
• Proven experience with satellite structures and validating mechanical platforms for launch (preferred)
• Skilled in FEA tools and intuitive in design to minimize unnecessary iterations (preferred)
• Proficient from concept to maintenance for both composite and metallic structures (preferred)
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes for both metallic and composite materials, including CFRP (preferred)
• Familiar with Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (preferred)
