- Keep your hands dirty: Your credibility rests on a real understanding of technologies. You aren't afraid to open a shell to investigate a blocker or capture network traffic with Wireshark.

- You know what a firewall rule or storage latency is.
- You're a translator: You can explain to business stakeholders why a project requires time, and to engineers why business requirements impose certain constraints.
