About the role

• Senior Engineer at GEICO building high-performance distributed systems. Leading design sessions and mentoring engineers while contributing to engineering excellence across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems.
• Design, Develop and implement enterprise data governance solutions.
• Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution
• Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle
• Lead in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization
• Define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective
• Mentor other engineers
• Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams

Requirements

• Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
• Expertise in Python and Typescript/JavaScript.
• Experience with other programming languages like Java/ Kotlin or Golang, React (Clean Architecture) or Angular and GIT
• Experience in backend development: Develop backend micro-services using RESTful APIs, Graph QL, BFF (Backend for Frontend), ORMs, orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Fast API, Spring Boot framework and/or other Spring technologies
• Experience developing and scaling open-source applications such as Datahub, Soda, DBT, etc.
• Experience with modern software development tools including VS code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor and Claude to enhance coding efficiency
• Experience with Open-Source Data Governance solutions like Datahub a plus
• Experience in the complete software development life cycle and knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
• Experience with container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and various Azure tools and services
• Experience with relational and non-relational database technologies (SQL, Snowflake, Oracle, Cosmos DB, Postgres, NoSQL etc.)
• Experience with Load test tooling (Gatling or equivalent)
• Experience with monitoring Data Observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Loki, Prometheus or equivalents
• Advanced understanding of DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps framework, CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Gradle, Artifactory, Microsoft Azure DevOps
• Experience working on different operating systems like Linux (Alpine, Ubuntu, Red Hat) & Windows
• Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code
• Advanced shell scripting skills
• Advanced understanding of monitoring concepts and tooling
• Strong problem-solving ability
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
