About the role

  • Engine Manager leading a high-performing team in the design and integration of 6-cylinder engine architectures. Overseeing all aspects of propulsion systems for Ford Motor Company.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing team: Manage a department of approximately 40 engineers responsible for the global design, release, and integration of 6-cylinder engine architectures for Ford Blue.
  • End-to-End System Ownership: Oversee the entire propulsion enterprise, including the engine, air induction, and exhaust systems, ensuring seamless integration across the vehicle.
  • Program Delivery: Drive accountability for global program milestones, ensuring all deliverables meet rigorous timing and attribute targets.
  • Technical Oversight: Ensure all engine designs adhere to internal design rules, satisfy Design Verification (DV) protocols, and meet all global regulatory requirements.
  • Quality and Reliability Leadership: Lead critical durability reviews and field action discussions; oversee issue resolution using engineer problem solving employing FMA, Statistics 8D, 3x5why methodologies.
  • Production Readiness: Guarantee high-volume manufacturing readiness through PPAP sign-off and direct collaboration with Ford Engine Manufacturing Plants.
  • Strategic Cost Management: Drive Total Value Management (TVM) and strategic cost-improvement initiatives to optimize system value.
  • Supply Base & Sourcing: Manage sourcing actions and serve as the primary engineering liaison between the Ford supply base and vehicle program teams.
  • Lifecycle Management: Oversee the WERS (Worldwide Engineering Release System) process, from initial design through to production and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of the internal combustion engine design and release process, engine attribute attainment tuning techniques, cost drivers, and quality issues.
  • Knowledge of the engine manufacturing process.
  • Knowledge of the Ford core engineering excellence process including FMEA, design rules, requirements, test methods, engineering specifications, and verification.
  • Experience in engine system FMEA, design rules, requirements, test methods, engineering specifications, and verification.
  • Ability to execute the Engineering Excellence process through Tech Club matrix reporting interactions.
  • Experience in engine component design and release.
  • History of developing and leading a strong team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills (6 sigma, 8D, A4, Red X, 3x5W, Statistics).
  • Strong skills in developing management presentations.
  • Ability to guide the team in evening, weekend, and holiday high priority situations.
