About the role

  • Technical Specialist providing support for Global Health Security surveillance activities in Vietnam. Focusing on zoonotic and emerging infectious disease surveillance and collaboration with government agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance for GHS surveillance activities, including zoonotic disease and emerging infectious disease (ZD/EID) surveillance
  • Support implementation and monitoring of integrated and event-based surveillance (IBS/EBS) activities in coordination with government counterparts and implementing partners
  • Support implementation and monitoring of surveillance activities at Points of Entry (PoE), including data collection, reporting workflows, and coordination with surveillance and response teams to ensure timely information flow
  • Focal point in day-to-day technical implementation of surveillance components, tracking progress against work plans, milestones, and deliverables
  • Support project design, business development, and proposal development, including technical inputs, drafting sections, work plans, and budgets
  • Contribute to quality assurance by ensuring surveillance activities, tools, and outputs align with donor requirements, national guidelines, and organizational SOPs
  • Support the development, updating, and use of health information systems (HIS) for surveillance, including data collection tools, reporting workflows, and data quality checks
  • Produce and manage knowledge products, including technical reports, briefs, presentations, and training or reference materials
  • Conduct analysis of surveillance implementation and data to identify gaps, lessons learned, and areas for improvement, escalating issues to senior technical staff as needed
  • Coordinate closely with project teams, HQ technical units, and partners to support cross-sectoral collaboration and information exchange
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • A master's degree in social science, public health, or equivalent
  • Minimum 6 years of experience supporting public health surveillance, infectious disease programs, or Global Health Security–related projects
  • Working knowledge of ZD/EID surveillance, including familiarity with IBS, EBS, or multisectoral surveillance approaches
  • Experience supporting technical implementation and reporting for donor-funded projects, preferably with government counterparts
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to technical writing, including reports, proposal sections, presentations, or briefs
  • Experience supporting or working with health information systems for surveillance, including data collection, validation, or reporting processes
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to track deliverables, support work plans, and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and follow technical direction from senior advisors
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Vietnamese
  • Ability to travel as necessary
