About the role

Responsibilities
- Build and evolve scalable backend systems that power growth initiatives across the platform
- Enable experimentation, feature rollouts, and data-driven iteration through robust backend frameworks and services
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data, and Engineering to translate growth and product needs into scalable technical solutions
- Own complex engineering projects end-to-end, from design through deployment and iteration
- Uphold high standards for performance, scalability, reliability, and security
- Contribute to the development of a strong engineering culture as the Toronto presence continues to grow
Requirements
- Extensive experience in backend engineering with a strong understanding of distributed systems
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or C++, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, production-quality code
- Proven experience building scalable, reliable backend systems and APIs in high-performance environments
- Experience thriving in startup or high-growth environments
- Strong grasp of modern engineering practices, including test-driven development, code reviews, and deployment pipelines
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills when working with cross-functional teams
- Leadership potential with an interest in mentoring junior engineers and shaping best practices as the team grows
