About the role
- Software Engineering Manager leading a Ruby on Rails team to build backend support for a debt negotiation platform. Collaborating in a Chicago-based hybrid role focusing on technical goals and consumer products.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 3-5 engineers working in a Ruby on Rails stack
- Design and build internal-facing APIs, asynchronous back end processing, and third-party integrations using Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and AWS
- Work with the devops team to ensure CI/CD pipeline meets growing needs
- Lead technical planning and roadmap delivery in support of client success operations
- Work with leadership team to produce and deliver engineering roadmap
- Mentor engineers and sponsor right projects for skillset growth
- Offer constructive feedback via code reviews
- Identify and promote engineering best practices
- Advise leadership team on technical feasibility of product decisions
Requirements
- Experience managing engineering teams
- 5+ years of experience building and deploying scalable applications in the cloud
- Hands-on expertise with Ruby on Rails
- Expertise in scoping large projects and initiatives into small iterations for release
- Clear and efficient communication skills
- Mentorship skills and the ability to give well-crafted constructive feedback
- Experience in a startup environment is not required but preferred
