About the role

  • Senior Platform Engineer designing and optimising cloud-native infrastructure for Betfair Romania Development. Focused on scalability and automation excellence in the UK & Ireland Infrastructure Tribe.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support cloud-native infrastructure and Kubernetes-based automation using Golang and related technologies
  • Lead the creation and optimisation of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins (Groovy) and Terraform, enabling smooth deployments and operational consistency
  • Architect scalable and resilient platforms on AWS, leveraging CDK for infrastructure as code
  • Drive automation strategies that reduce manual processes and promote self-service across engineering teams
  • Lead initiatives for improving observability using tools like OpenTelemetry, ensuring proactive monitoring and issue detection
  • Optimise platform scalability, security, and performance while aligning with cost-efficiency best practices
  • Maintain platform security, focusing on firewall automation, DNS management, and load balancing to ensure high availability and reliability
  • Work closely with security and compliance teams to align with regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Act as a technical lead within the squad, offering guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with Product Owners, Architects, and other engineering teams
  • Support the professional development of junior engineers, especially in areas like CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and cloud automation
  • Engage with non-technical stakeholders, clearly communicating technical decisions and strategies
  • Represent the team in platform roundtables and roadmap discussions, advocating for best practices and future-proof solutions
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies, particularly in cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes ecosystems, and DevOps practices
  • Lead technical workshops and brainstorming sessions, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning

Requirements

  • Strong experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native infrastructure
  • Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and associated cloud technologies
  • Proficiency in Golang and scripting languages (Python, Bash)
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and CDK
  • In-depth understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab) and automation strategies
  • Experience with networking fundamentals, including firewalls, DNS, and load balancing
  • Strong understanding of observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus)
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and guiding engineers
  • Effective communication skills —able to convey technical details to non-technical stakeholders
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to complex challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and drive initiatives forward
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, agile environments
