About the role

  • Senior Mechanical Engineer working on complex engineering challenges supporting the NZDF fleet at Babcock. Leading design improvements and ensuring regulatory compliance for naval capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Work on complex and meaningful engineering challenges, shaping mechanical systems that support the NZDF fleet
  • Lead investigations and design improvements ensuring outcomes meet regulatory, safety, and operational requirements
  • Deliver high-quality mechanical solutions impacting naval and maritime capability
  • Join a team that values curiosity, courage, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Engage in diverse activities such as design, analysis, risk assessment, and documentation, broadening expertise while mentoring others

Requirements

  • Mechanical design and integration experience
  • Ability to lead technical investigations
  • Strong engineering judgement and problem‑solving
  • Proficiency with PLM/MRP and engineering software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to manage tasks to time, cost, quality
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Ability to mentor and share technical expertise
  • Washington Accord–accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or related)
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer membership
  • Membership of a recognised engineering body (Chartered preferred)
  • Eligibility to obtain NZSIS Confidential clearance
