Responsibilities
Design water supply, Foul and Storm water drainage, and fire protection systems for rail depots and station facilities.
Address depot-specific challenges, including: Oil-water separators for maintenance bays and wash-down areas.
Specialized drainage systems for maintenance pits and heavy-duty cleaning zones.
Frost protection strategies for water systems in cold climates (Canada, UK).
Develop schematic layouts, hydraulic calculations, and sizing of pumps, pipes, and tanks.
Ensure compliance with UK standards (BS EN), Network Rail specifications, and adapt designs for Canadian and Middle Eastern codes.
Working knowledge on BIM software such AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley- MicroStation, Open Building Designer.
Prepare design reports, specifications and respond to technical queries.
Coordinate within MEP and other working disciplines for integrated design solutions considering buildability and operational requirements.
Utilize tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, BIM 360 Or Bentley equivalent for reviewing models and generating schematics.
Competent in PHE design software such as AutoSPRINK, HASS or equivalent for fire protection design.
Support multi-region projects, adapting designs to Canadian and Middle Eastern codes and climatic conditions.
Ensure compliance with CDM regulations.
Participate in internal meetings, presentations, and technical reviews.
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5–7 years of PHE design experience, preferably in rail, depots or large infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of UK rail standards and exposure to international codes.
Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Experience with UK rail projects and GRIP/PACE stages.
Exposure to Canadian and Middle Eastern rail/building projects.
Knowledge of energy modelling and sustainability frameworks (LEED, BREEAM).
Working towards or holding professional accreditation (CIBSE/IMechE).
Familiarity with digital platforms and willingness to learn new tools.
