About the role

  • Nuclear Safety Engineer designing complex schemes to protect assets in the Nuclear & Power Division. Supporting safety case development and collaborating with teams in nuclear facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting safety case development during the design, operation, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
  • Production of all nuclear safety documentation as part of the Site Licence Conditions.
  • Hazard/fault identification studies e.g., HAZOP, HAZAN, FMEA, etc.
  • Qualitative and quantitative safety arguments.
  • Safety case development.
  • Deterministic and probabilistic safety assessments.
  • Engineering substantiation.
  • Fault and protection schedules.
  • Hazard categorisation and assessment.
  • Safety case authoring/management/development/production.
  • Fire analysis (nuclear or conventional).
  • As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) assessment.
  • Engineering change safety justifications.
  • Assisting in the production of bids and proposals.
  • Implementing and contributing to safety initiatives.
  • Work within teams that liaise with operators, designers and clients, building a strong relationship with them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in a relevant subject.
  • Technical practitioner able to demonstrate good engineering judgement and with extensive experience in using fundamental engineering skills.
  • Record of delivering technically challenging projects.
  • Experience in safety case production and/or hazard analysis.
  • Able to produce and review/correct high-quality technical reports.
  • Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
  • Awareness of their own technical limitations and using the help and support of others to deliver.
  • Sound commercial acumen.
