About the role
- Nuclear Safety Engineer designing complex schemes to protect assets in the Nuclear & Power Division. Supporting safety case development and collaborating with teams in nuclear facilities.
Responsibilities
- Supporting safety case development during the design, operation, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
- Production of all nuclear safety documentation as part of the Site Licence Conditions.
- Hazard/fault identification studies e.g., HAZOP, HAZAN, FMEA, etc.
- Qualitative and quantitative safety arguments.
- Safety case development.
- Deterministic and probabilistic safety assessments.
- Engineering substantiation.
- Fault and protection schedules.
- Hazard categorisation and assessment.
- Safety case authoring/management/development/production.
- Fire analysis (nuclear or conventional).
- As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) assessment.
- Engineering change safety justifications.
- Assisting in the production of bids and proposals.
- Implementing and contributing to safety initiatives.
- Work within teams that liaise with operators, designers and clients, building a strong relationship with them.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in a relevant subject.
- Technical practitioner able to demonstrate good engineering judgement and with extensive experience in using fundamental engineering skills.
- Record of delivering technically challenging projects.
- Experience in safety case production and/or hazard analysis.
- Able to produce and review/correct high-quality technical reports.
- Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
- Awareness of their own technical limitations and using the help and support of others to deliver.
