About the role

  • Transportation Engineering Designer at Arcadis involved in design and delivery of transportation projects. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to create innovative, sustainable mobility solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Detailed design for transportation infrastructure projects, including municipal roads, highways, LRT/BRT corridors, and active transportation facilities.
  • Develop engineering drawings and models using MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Prepare and review design documents, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for roadways, intersections, and transit facilities.
  • Conduct road safety and traffic operations analysis to inform design decisions (not planning studies).
  • Coordinate and integrate utility, drainage, and grading designs in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure all designs are compliant with applicable standards and guidelines (e.g., TAC, Ontario Traffic Manuals, MTO requirements).
  • Support the preparation of tender packages and respond to contractor inquiries during construction.
  • Perform quality checks for technical accuracy and completeness prior to submittal.
  • Mentor junior staff in design tasks and technical best practices.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, attend design meetings, and deliver technical presentations if required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO.
  • 1-2 years of direct experience in transportation design: municipal roads, highways, LRT/BRT, intersection improvements, and active transportation infrastructure.
  • Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of specialized software (e.g., Synchro, AutoTurn) to support design tasks.
  • Strong understanding of relevant technical standards, including TAC Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manuals, and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
