About the role

  • Workload Automation Senior Engineer focusing on batch job processing for 24 x 7 operations at American Family Insurance. Collaborating and providing technical guidance for business solutions in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee 24x7 batch job processing, develop schedules, manage job dependencies, and update scheduling calendars
  • Investigate and resolve job failures (abends), conduct root cause analysis, and address scheduling conflicts
  • Install, configure, and upgrade scheduling tools (such as AutoSys/CA7/Stonebranch), manage scheduling agents, and perform routine database maintenance
  • Partner with application teams to design and improve workflows, assist with production migrations, and provide on-call support
  • Maintain comprehensive job documentation, follow security protocols, and support internal and external audit processes
  • Analyze high-level system specifications, system requirements, and use cases
  • Understand and identify system dependencies
  • Ensure software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security
  • Identify and recommend areas for improvement in planning, design, and testing

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with CA7 (mainframe) or AutoSys/ Stonebranch (distributed systems) scheduling tools
  • Strong command of JCL, TSO/ISPF, JES2/JES3, and SDSF for CA7, or Unix/Linux/Windows shell scripting for AutoSys
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving complex job dependencies and failures
  • Effective collaborator with the ability to work with multiple teams and disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience developing complex systems using one or more programming language
  • Solid knowledge of systems development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with integration and migration strategies and technologies.
