About the role

  • Acting as a design lead on complex projects related to fire alarm and VESDA systems. Responsible for drawings, submissions, and compliance with code requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and plans own workload, helps to advise workload of less expert design team members, and additionally works with other design teams when required.
  • Facilitates reviews of initial designs of medium to large complexity to supply engineered/code compliant solutions where required.
  • Coordinates with CAD Support Technicians to prepare fully detailed technical submissions with complete detailed schematics and drawings to meet design criteria.
  • Supervises CAD Support Technicians in the preparation of project submissions for medium to large complexity systems including: system operation, drawings, and calculations.
  • Ensure project drawings are code compliant, and the design intent is met before submitting to the end user.
  • Completes or confirms detailed calculations to verify system design meets code and standard requirements.
  • Participates in pre/post project design meeting and attends (virtually) customer coordination meetings, as applicable.
  • Support development of a bill of materials to facilitate construction.
  • Examines completed submissions in conjunction with CAD Support Technician for equipment application, equipment compatibility, and compliance with specifications and scope.
  • Provides support to Project Managers when orders have been received to assist in maintaining and/or improving project margins.

Requirements

  • 5 years minimum experience installing and inspecting Inergen / FM200 / Novec1230 / FK-5-1-12 / CO2 systems including detection components, system cylinders and connected piping.
  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Ability to learn hydraulic calculation software and product training.
  • Recognize flaws in a design or the information that was provided and question those flaws.
  • Handle multiple projects / tasks at the same time and determine project priorities.
  • Understand the functions of Suppression Release Control Panels and the interaction with the gas system components.
  • Knowledge of different enclosure and hazard types and what they may require.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding architectural and electrical diagrams.
  • Fundamental understanding of Microsoft Office Suite including, Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, Adobe
  • Effective written and oral communications
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule
  • Available for local travel
