About the role

  • Systems Engineer in transportation solutions helping simplify daily journeys while ensuring system integration and stakeholder collaboration. Focus on developing and managing system requirements, architecture, and testing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and execute systems engineering activities including requirements decomposition, system design, and integration
  • Perform complex analyses and trade studies for system concept selection
  • Create and control systems engineering artifacts like RVTM, ICD, architecture diagrams, and test plans
  • Devise innovative solutions for complex problems via in-depth analysis
  • Direct hardware/software integration and system-level testing
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to communicate technical concepts
  • Prepare technical documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Conduct risk management and provide solutions to technical challenges
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to meet project objectives
  • Work on-site in Minneapolis with travel to San Diego up to 25% during key activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive knowledge of systems engineering processes, including requirements analysis, system design, integration, and testing
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems using sophisticated analytical techniques
  • Experience with hardware/software integration, system verification, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, IEEE)
  • Experience with software engineering projects including Java, C++, or C#, integrating device communications with back-end systems through direct communications and APIs
  • Experience in test automation (e.g., JUnit/TestNG, Selenium, TestComplete, Jenkins, TestRail)
  • Programming languages such as Java or Python
  • Knowledge of XML, SQL, and API testing (SOAP, REST)
  • Excellent communication skills for technical presentations to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills for relationship management with senior stakeholders
  • Experience using model-based design methods (SysML or UML)
  • Familiarity with Agile or Lean development methodologies
  • Experience with Automated Fare Collection (AFC) and/or Transportation Systems preferred
  • Proficiency in tools such as DOORS, JIRA, or other systems engineering platforms.
